ASG Opens City Fresh Market on E. 116th Street

The Community Welcomes the Store After A Two Year Hiatus

Port Washington, NY, May 8th, 2018 – Port Washington, NY–ASG (Associated Supermarket Group) opened its latest store in the heart of Spanish Harlem, Manhattan’s most recent neighborhood undergoing rapid growth and development. Located at 125 E 116th, the 10,000 square foot store opened for business on Saturday, April 21, 2018 with an official opening ceremony and blessing on May 3, 2018. To the dismay of the community, the store was closed for two years after losing its lease to a pharmacy chain within a new building development. As development plans changed, ASG stepped in to secure the lease for the family owned supermarket.

Decorated as an Italian village, City Fresh features an extensive assortment of specialty, organic, ethnic, mainstream and traditional foods, in addition to a wide selection of hot/cold foods prepared on premise. The store boasts a full bakery with daily bread and gourmet pastries baked onsite, a sushi station and the locally renowned pizza, “Wahizza,” prepared fresh in a brick-oven. The grand opening celebrations included door-buster specials, sampling of its prepared foods, including pizza, fresh pastries and sushi.

“We are setting the store to meet the needs of today’s consumer and give shoppers fresh and healthier options at a good price,” said store owner Anthony Espinal. “We are grateful to ASG for their backing on this project, and the Harlem community for their patronage and support during the difficult times before the closing,” he added.

To satisfy fast changing consumer taste and eating habits, City Fresh Market also offers an extensive tropical produce and meat departments with a variety of certified organic and premium options. The grocery department offers hard to find ethnic products from various Latin countries. The store also features private labels “Avenue A” and “Cherry Valley”, providing quality at a value price.

“We are very excited with the opening of this store, as securing its lease was one of our most significant achievements. It’s been close to ten months since construction began for a full renovation that resulted in a remarkable store that creates a better shopping experience for its customers. We commend Anthony and his team for setting a concept that tackles the needs of an evolving shopper,” said Zulema Wiscovitch, Chief Administrative Officer of Associated Supermarket Group.  “This City Fresh Market is an example of the food industry’s innovation, where consumers have the convenience to order a meal while shopping for home essentials,” she added.
